Someone asked on the LeadSource support forum whether one notification can go to two inboxes, and what the protocol is. Free LeadSource 1.0.8 only stores one notification address in Settings. There is no second To field and no documented comma list.
This post answers that limit as it stands today, then covers honest workarounds and what Pro adds when you need routing by source.
What free 1.0.8 actually sends
The free LeadSource plugin stores every form fill in its own WordPress table. It can also mail you about those fills.
You get per-submission email notifications when a tracked form submits. You can also turn on daily, weekly, and monthly summary emails. From 1.0.7 those messages carry a plain-text part beside the HTML part, so mail clients that prefer plain text still get a readable body.
The setup wizard asks for your notification email address (singular in the docs). Settings is where you change that address later. The wizard also lets you choose notification preferences and auto-detects which supported form plugins are active.
Each LeadSource notification is about the source of that fill. When the visit had tags or a click ID, the mail can include the traffic source label, UTM values, click ID, landing page, and referrer. That is separate from the form plugin’s own mail. Contact Form 7 is the only supported plugin that appends source onto the form plugin’s own email. The others keep their own notification and LeadSource sends its own.
From 1.0.7 you can turn off the one-line LeadSource mention in those notification emails under Settings (LeadSource promotion). Turn it off and the mail carries no promotion line at all.
Native hooks in 1.0.8 are Contact Form 7, WPForms, Gravity Forms, Ninja Forms, Formidable Forms, Fluent Forms, Elementor Pro Forms, Everest Forms, and Forminator. Stored entries are unlimited. Capture is same session only. Closing the browser ends the cookie. There is no 90 day window and no first-plus-last stamp. That limit is covered in Same Session Attribution vs 90 Day UTM Cookies.
Why a second address is not a free setting
The support thread is clear. Staff said free LeadSource has no option for more than one notification address. That matches the public readme. The Features list names per-submission notifications and summary emails. It does not name a multi-recipient To field.
Do not invent a hidden trick. Putting two addresses separated by a comma in the single Settings field is not a documented free feature. Treat the field as one address. If you need a second person to see every LeadSource mail today, fix it outside that field.
Workarounds that stay honest
Three approaches keep the free plugin as it is and still get two people the news.
- Forward at the mailbox. Point LeadSource at a shared address (sales@ or leads@). Let that mailbox forward to the humans who need a copy. The plugin still has one address. The mail server does the fan-out.
- Use a shared team inbox. One address, several people reading it. Same idea as forwarding, without a second delivery.
- Keep the form plugin’s own notifications for people who only need the form fields. Gravity Forms, WPForms, Formidable, and similar tools already let you add several notification recipients on the form itself. LeadSource still sends its own source mail to the one address in Settings. Sales can read the form mail for the enquiry text and the LeadSource mail for the campaign and click ID.
None of those three invents a free multi-recipient UI inside LeadSource. They accept the one-address limit and route around it.
If you need the source fields on a CRM contact rather than in another inbox, that is a different job. Map the LeadSource row (or the form entry) into the CRM the way you already map other fields. The CRM path is covered in How Do I Get WordPress Form UTM and GCLID Data onto a CRM Contact.
What Pro adds for routing
LeadSource Pro is $99 a year. The free plugin stays fully functional. Pro adds per-recipient, per-source notifications. You can route Facebook fills to one inbox and Google Ads fills to another, with daily, weekly, and monthly summaries per recipient.
That is the product answer when the real need is “paid search to sales, Meta to the social lead owner, owner gets the monthly summary.” Free forwarding cannot do that split by source. Pro can.
Pro also adds full lead-journey tracking, saved and prebuilt reports with date-range comparison, good-lead marking, scheduled branded client reports, white-labeling, and internal-traffic plus bot filtering. Those are separate from the multi-inbox question. Only reach for them if that is the job.
What this plugin still does not do
LeadSource records the source on the fill. It does not push the lead into a CRM by itself. It does not upload conversions back into Google Ads. A stored gclid is a match key for a later Ads import. It is not an Ads button.
Capture still runs in the visitor browser. Server-side cache does not strip that read. Referrer has a server-side fallback. UTM parameters and click IDs come from the script. A consent banner or an ad blocker that stops the script can leave the source empty or Direct. The form still saves.
Click IDs in free 1.0.8 are gclid, fbclid, msclkid, li_fat_id, and ttclid. The readme does not list gbraid or wbraid.
The flow from click to dashboard is in How It Works.
Short checklist
- Open LeadSource Settings and confirm the one notification address is an inbox someone actually reads.
- Turn the LeadSource promotion line off if you do not want it on every mail.
- Turn on a summary cadence if per-submission mail is too noisy (daily, weekly, or monthly).
- Submit a test fill from a tagged URL on a landing page, then browse to the form page and submit. Do not paste the tags onto the form URL alone.
- Read the LeadSource mail and the LeadSource dashboard row. Confirm the source label, campaign, and click ID. Do not stop at the form plugin mail.
- If a second person must see every LeadSource mail, forward from that one address or use a shared inbox. If they only need paid-search fills and you need Meta elsewhere, that is the Pro routing case.
Free LeadSource answers “where did this fill come from” with one notification address. Two inboxes is either mailbox forwarding or Pro routing. Pick the one that matches the job.
